Whether you take care of a bunch of dogs from day to day, or you just have some pet dogs at home you want to shower with love and affection, you’ll need to make sure you have the right tools to win the day.  If you’re home or place of business is not equipped with all the basic essentials, you can find yourself sorely in need of endless trips to the pet shop or local department store to fill in the holes in your preparation.  Dog experts may not need the advice contained in this article, but if you’re new to dog caretaking, keep in mind these must-haves that will make the novice into an expert in no-time.

Encourage separate spheres…
You may love your dog with all of your heart, and I’m sure that your dog will love you back all the same if you’re good to him or her.   But love and affection doesn’t always mean that all of your needs can be met off that basis alone.  To be useful to your dog, you need to set boundaries.  If your dog is waking you up hours early every morning and messing up your schedule, you’ll be too tired to function properly later to walk the dog, feed him, and spend time with him when you’re home from work.  To give yourself the space you need, set those boundaries.  Instead of allowing your dog to sleep on your bed, for instance, you may try having your pet use a dog bed.  This day and age, dog beds are often good values, and they’re so plentiful in so many designs and styles that you’re bound to find at least one that’s a perfect match for your dog.

Automation is really man’s best friend…
OK, so maybe automation isn’t, but it will come close.  If you have to spend hours away at work each day, or you’re simply so overloaded with tasks that finding time for menial things is difficult, you may need to rely on some automated help.  The area where this is the most helpful is during feeding.  If you got an automatic dog feeding device, the machine will release dry dog food at preset times you desire.  That way, even if you’re not around to feed the dog, he’ll get fed, and you won’t have to worry about overeating by just keeping an endless supply of food out.

Boredom is no one’s friend…
Just like you’ll do almost anything to not be bored when there’s nothing else to do, your dog will do the same.  So if your dog is left to his own devices, he may start chewing up tube socks or wrecking the couch.  To avoid such behavior, leave plenty of toys or other things around that will give your pet something to do.  After all, a dog’s a living being, and one with social and interaction needs just as rigorous.  So instead of ignoring them, plan for them with dog toys or interactive dog play sets.
