The first and most important step is of course finding a fish tank for sale. But before you actually buy one identify and measure the space where you want to set the tank. This will determine the size of the tank. Once you have that settled, investigate the types of tanks available and select the one that suits you. The basic thing that you should look for is the bottom of the tank. The entire weight of the tank and its contents are borne by the bottom. A tropical fish tank normally has glass, fiber or metal bottoms. The metal bottomed ones do not need much support and you can place them on any frame. The glass and fiber tanks have to be placed on a stand with a top supported by a strong frame. The fiber ones are lighter but the most popular tanks are the glass bottomed ones.
Once you have bought the tank, put in some gravel, stones, water plants and decorative pieces into it. These will enhance the looks of the fish tank and barring the decorations these items are necessary for the survival of the fish. The next item is a heater that will maintain the right temperature along with proper lighting. Now that you have got your tank and necessary accessories ready, buy the fishes you ant and put them in the tank.
Maintenance of fish tanks entails regular changing of the water. This involves siphoning out the dirty water and replacing it with fresh water. This will keep both your tank and its inhabitants healthy. These simple steps and frequent maintenance should be adequate in making your dreams of owning a tropical fish tank come true.
