Dealing with a flea outbreak in the home can be a frustrating experience. Fleas can hurt you and your guests as well as your pets, so it’s a good idea to attack the problem as soon as you can. The most effective solution for dealing with the problem is to use flea bombs for homes.
When you make a decision about where to buy flea bombs, make sure you go with one that contains IGR, an ingredient that kills fleas before they are old enough to reproduce. Buy enough of them to cover the square footage of your entire house. Check the instructions on the package to be sure.
To avoid contamination, tape shut any cabinets or remove the dishes from them, and be sure that all food in the home is properly sealed. Any food that can’t be sealed should be thrown out. Move as much of the furniture as you can out of the carpeted areas so that they don’t block the spray and protect the fleas. Get everybody out of the house, including the pets, and remove any pet’s cages, tanks, or beds.
Lay newspaper down in the area where the flea bomb is to be placed. It should be in the upright position and placed in the center of the area that it is intended to cover. Following the instructions that came with the bomb, set it up to go off and leave the home immediately.
The instructions should list an amount of time to wait before reentering the home. Do not come back inside before the duration listed. Once you come back inside, open the windows, turn on the ventilation, and leave for another hour or so. When finished, properly discard of the bomb and newspapers.
When you are done, wash all clothing and bedding that was exposed to the bomb, vacuum the carpeting and upholstery, and wipe clean all other exposed surfaces. Finally, wash any dishes that were inside during the process, and dust any objects that could carry residue from the bomb.
Using flea bombs for homes can be a little bit of work, but if you followed these basic instructions you will have safely and successfully ended your flea problem.
