Havanese dogs are a Bichon type of dog that was bred from the Bichon Tenerife. The Bichon Tenerife was brought to the Canary Islands hundreds of years ago by the Spaniards. They are energetic little dogs that socialize well with children and other animals. They love to clown around and have a characteristic hop instead of running. This motion is due to the fact that this dog’s topline is slightly higher at the tail that the neck.
These Havanese dogs were bred for companionship and enjoy being with their human owners. They are intelligent and affectionate dogs. The Havanese gets along well with children and other dogs.
Havanese is one of the hypoallergenic breeds and therefore is ideal for allergy sufferers. This dog’s long coat requires frequent grooming. If the coat is to be left long you will need to brush your dog several times per week. Keeping the coat cut shorter will reduce the need for brushing but will necessitate frequent haircuts.
As with any new puppy your Havanese should be socialized early and be trained. They learn very quickly so training is not difficult. The Havanese is a playful little dog that needs daily exercise. With a fair amount of outdoor activity they will then be content to curl up in your lap or play inside.
The most obvious characteristic of this dog is its dense, wavy coat. The hair is soft and silky to the touch. Havanese dogs have lots of hair but it should not be styled or overdone. The basic appearance of their coats should be casual and suggest a fun-loving and playful dog.
The Havanese dog breed has a coat that comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Some common colors are white, black, red, fawn, chocolate, gold, and charcoal blue. They often contain two or three of these colors. A light colored dog may have ears and feet of a darker color. A black dog might have white markings on its feet and tail.
If you see Havanese dogs for sale be sure to ask the breeder for references. Check to see what veterinarian records are available for the puppy you are considering. A good Havanese dog breeder will generally be interested in what kind of life you can provide for the dog and will probably ask you some questions about your family life.

The Havenese was developed in Cuba and was very famous using the wealthy people of the country before the Cuban Revolution. after the revolution, the breed almost started to be extinct. However, an American breeder intervened and began working to save the breed from that fate. Today, the breed is becoming increasingly famous using the U. S. and other countries.
