Puggle puppies are a crossbreed created by breeding a Beagle female with a Pug male. A man named Wallace Haven from the state of Wisconsin in the 1980s first produced these dogs. He created the dog’s name and registered it with the American Canine Hybrid Club, which is a non-credited club that registers crossbreeds. It was not until the year 2000 that Haven began breeding his Puggle puppies on a large scale.
Breed associations such as the American Kennel Association and the Canadian Kennel Association do not recognize crossbreeds such as the Puggle. The American Hybrid Canine Association, who do register crossbreeds, has indicated that the Puggle is the most popular of all the hybrid litters that are registered each month.
The Puggle puppy is a smaller dog that will look like a puppy for a longer period of time. Puggle puppies love to curl up in your lap for a nice long nap. When looking for Puggle puppies for sale be sure to insure that the dog came from a Pug father and a Beagle mother.
Puggles puppies are found with the colors of beige, tan, fawn, or even black. Their smooth short coat requires very little brushing or other care. The face is wrinkled and the tail is curly. Puggle puppies are short and stout little dogs. An adult will grow to a height of 10-15 inches. They can weigh anywhere between 15 and 30 pounds. The average life span is around 12 years.
While these dogs do not require a lot of daily care they do crave lots of attention. Puggles need a good deal of physical activity in the form of outdoor play and frequent walks. The two breeds from which the Puggles descend both show a great deal of independence, which can make them a bit difficult to train.
They are good-natured dogs that get to know their owners quickly and they adjust to people and other dogs readily. They are loving, affable dogs who like being close to humans. They may howl, dig holes and tend to wander just like their Beagle mothers.
Health problems with Puggles can include epilepsy, cherry eye, luxating patellas, back problems, and hip dysplasia. If parents with few of these problems are bred together there will be less chance of the puppies having these problems. Puggle puppies are generally not very tolerant of temperature extremes. Those with a longer nose like the Beagle are less susceptible to respiratory ailments. Pugs have respiratory ailments and this trait is sometimes passed down to the Puggle.
