Proper turtle care is an important thing to learn about if you want to bring these very interesting pets into your home. Turtles are very interesting to have, but do not make the mistake of getting one of these tortoises and treating it like a cat or dog. These animals need to take time to get used to their new owner, and when you first bring them home, do not expect your new pet to be affectionate and want to play. Turtles are not toys, and many times people get them as such for their children to play with. Know that this can cause a great deal of harm and stress for him, and it can possibly cause him to die, so know the best way of taking care of him before bringing him home to your family.
Choose a proper place to house your new pet as this is also a very important part of pet ownership. Once you get something set up, whether it is inside or out, bring him home and get him in his new “home.” It may be a good idea to just let him be for at least the first few days. As stated earlier, turtles like to be left alone most of the time, and they get very nervous around humans, especially new people. Your pet will get used to you over time, and he will realize that you are his owner and will start to like you since you are the one who feeds him and brings him food.
Knowing proper nutritional care is a very important part of owning one of these wonderful pets. Feeding your pet turtle is an easy thing to do, but you need to know what to feed him. Vegetables like spinach and lettuce are very good things for your new pet to eat. They may also like certain turtle food that you can buy at your local, neighborhood pet store.
